Fixing Bathtub Faucet Leaking When Shower is On:

You flip the water to have a shower, shifting from the bathtub faucet into the showerhead. Doing this, you notice water coming from this bathtub faucet while the showerhead is still on.

The bathtub faucet leaking as you are taking a shower is a frequent household problem which most homeowners cope with at any stage.

While perhaps not a high priority issue, it may be a hassle. Not to mention, the water pressure coming from the showerhead is much less than it should be.

What’s causing this?

A diverter might be an unknown term. The diverter is a valve in your tub’s faucet that diverts water from the tub to the showerhead when the lever is pulled to turn on the shower. A little bit of water leaking from your tub’s faucet is ordinary because the valve does not possess a perfect seal. However, if a huge quantity of water is coming from the tub’s faucet then you probably have an issue with the valve.

Repairing the diverter is a relatively simple fix. You’ve got two choices. You can replace the component or the entire shower diverter valve.

In any event, the very first step you will want to consider is to determine how the spout is connected. You’ll have to try to find a little hole or even a setscrew. If You Discover a little hole or a setscrew on the underside of the spout at which it matches the wall you will want to follow those measures:

  • Cover the drain with a washcloth or plug and use an Allen wrench (Hex key) to remove the screw. The washcloth or plug is used to catch the screw so it doesn’t fall down the drain.
  • Twist the spout while still pulling it out and away from the supply pipe.

If your spout does not have a little hole or setscrew subsequently the faucet is threaded on the distribution pipe. Grab the spout with a pipe wrench and turn it counterclockwise until the spout comes off.

After the spout is off, then take the rubber washer and then replace it. In some cases, this is sufficient to resolve the issue. Otherwise, you’ll have to stop with a hardware shop and find a totally new shower diverter valve.
